Enter for a chance to visit Memphis!
AIGA is holding a design conference October 8-11th in Memphis, and we want to send a few UTA students to represent our school! Winners will receive conference entry fees ($350!) and will need to cover their other costs (airfare, food, lodging…)
It will be a great way to meet other designers in the professional world and other design students from around the country. Several Networking Receptions are offered as a great place to meet people. There will be a Student Symposium aimed at helping students start their careers on the right foot, as well as an optional Student Portfolio Review!
The conference also has an impressive list of speakers, including our beloved Kate Bingaman-Burt!
Interested students should check out the previously mentioned application process. Winners will be selected by UTA faculty. We will be accepting admissions in the Green Rooms on August 28th from noon to 2pm. Be sure to get in touch with us in advance if you can’t make the drop off time.

Do you know what’s up with Mark Weaver?
He’s an amazing designer with a terrific contemporary-vintage aesthetic. I’ve been following him on flickr for a while and stumbled upon this great interview over on Defgrip blog. Please check out his stuff, it’s phenomenal.

SENIOR SHOW//THE CLEANERS
Hi all,
Yesterday a group of us interior task force people went to take measurements at The Cleaners and I thought I’d post our results.
Based on our measurements, we do think we need the hanging wall that would hang between the two posts. This gives each of us 17 participants approximately 4 feet of space to work with, both wall space and table space. A few spots would be a little short of the 4 feet, but they would also have less people on their area. We thought to be fair, it would be best to divide and number each space and then we would draw numbers and that is where your space would be. Of course, if you wanted to try to trade with someone, that is up to you.
There are some tables provided at the ace, but they are long and skinny, and Nancy had a great suggestion of trying to find a different solution, maybe old grocery crates or something similar to be more in tune with our identity concept. These would fit the length requirements per person and also could be used as shelving to set stuff in, possibly even shallower ones on the wall. We thought a trip next week to the Rebuilding Center might prove to be good inspiration. We are also in the process of making mood board and research to help integrate the identity with the space.
Anyway, these are of course just initial brainstorms and ideas, so if you have any thoughts please share and we’ll see you at the meeting! Please check out the photos of The Cleaners space at the Senior Show Flickr page.

ABOUT
Mission
- The OVC is dedicated to advancing design as a professional craft, strategic tool, and vital cultural force. We aim to offer positive and inspiring events for students, have a positive impact in the community, reach beyond the campus, and act in the most professional manner possible.
History
- Our organization was first formed in 1972 when visual communication students became interested in working together to make their busy design schedules more burdensome. In formation, the temperature and humidity were controlled so that the aging proceeded at a proper rate, and we did not dry out, nor “weep” with moisture.
- The OVC has become involved with projects ranging from hallway banners to invitations for the President’s inaugural ball.

Sagrada Familia Ceramics

10 notecards for $12.99
10 postcards for $8.99
Music Palace

10 postcards for $8.99
*********
I’ve been wanting to combine a love of both art and architecture. On our last trip to Barcelona, I took a bunch of pictures that I used as the foundation for a new series of postcards and notecards. There are closeups of beautiful mosaics and pottery, full shots of architectural treasures, and candid photos of traditional cultural events. I hope you’ll enjoy them.
You can begin browsing the catalog with the ceramics postcards.
Or you can click on one of the images below to go directly to that set of postcards.
